The Zone
One of the popular low carb diets out there is The Zone. This diet is actually a set of books. It is not a regular type of low carb diet, but it does recommend a certain ratio of eating carbs that makes it fit into this category. The books by Barry Sears propagate you eating fewer carbs, and though you eat more carbs in this diet than some of the other diets, you still don’t eat as many carbs as the food pyramid recommends.

Protein Power
Protein Power is another of the low carbohydrate diets out there. This is a diet that has two different phases to it. The one phase is developed for those who want to lose a lot of weight, while the other phase is for people who want to lose only a few pounds and get healthy. The diet also recommends that you use weight training with the diet and shows you how to make this exercise a part of your life.

Atkins
The Atkins diet is one of the most popular low carbohydrate diets out there. More than likely you have heard of it. The first two weeks of the diet actually has you eating no carbs at all. Later in the diet you are able to add carbs back into your diet. Then you are supposed to start figuring out how many carbs you can tolerate and still keep your weight down. This diet doesn’t focus on any exercise and doesn’t focus on calorie restriction either.

Carbohydrate Addicts Diet
The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet is another of the diets that are considered to be low carb. It was developed by the Hellers and is outlined in two books that they offer. The basic plan is eating two meals each day that are low carb, and then having a meal every day that is considered to be a “reward” where you can eat as many carbs as you want to.

South Beach Diet
Last of all is the South Beach Diet, another one of the more popular low carb diets out there today. This diet is all about the Glycemic Index. The glycemic index ranks all foods based on how they raise blood sugar. With this diet you are encouraged to have a balance of fats and carbohydrates as well. However, foods that are processed are eliminated from the diet.
