I was out to dinner recently at a local Italian family restaurant. There was something so special about their garlic toast, that I had to ask the server if the cook would tell me how they made it. The server laughed, and responded that there’s no way her Dad would be willing to share his secret garlic cheese bread recipe. That sparked my hunt for an authentic garlic cheese bread recipe. I tried many, but they were all missing something. Then, it hit me. It’s not so much about the ingredients as it is about the preparation. The ingredients here are simple and you’re free to modify them as you see fit, but pay close attention to the preparation instructions, as it is what makes a very special garlic cheese bread recipe.
Ingredients (Make substitutions if you would like.)
1 medium size loaf of French bread
2 tbsp butter
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp parsley
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup Havarti cheese
1/4 cup blue cheese
Preparation Instructions
Preheat your oven to as hot as it will go (Maximum of 550°F. If it doesn’t go that high, that’s okay, just max it out.)
Cut your bread into four equal pieces and then lay them flat.
Spread the butter across each piece of bread equally. You can choose to use more butter, or less butter depending on your preferences.
Microwave the buttered bread for 15 seconds. No longer than this! This will melt the butter and keep the bread soft on the inside, while it gets toasty and crispy on the outside.
Evenly distribute the cheese across each piece of bread, top the cheese with garlic powder and your seasoning herbs.
Place the bread in the preheated oven for around 10 minutes. Depending on the heat of your oven, it may take a little more time or even a bit less.
Once the cheese is bubbling around the edges, then it’s time to remove the bread from the oven, and serve it hot.
