As a personal fitness trainer I’ve found that many of my clients are lost when it comes to knowing healthy snacks for weight loss. This leads them to skipping meals or finding other alternative snacks which aren’t healthy. One of the big reasons I don’t want my fitness clients to skip meals or snacks is because it’s going to cause their blood sugar levels to dip down low putting them in a prime condition to binge on their diets. If you really want to stick to your diet then I would recommend snacking because it will help to control your hunger and keep your food intake in manageable size portions.
Most people feel guilty about snacking but the truth is there really is nothing wrong with it and there are numerous benefits that will help keep your mind and body fresh as well as your metabolism going strong. I recommend giving my clients the option of having 2 to 3 different snacks throughout the day preferably in between meals to keep their blood sugar levels stable. The best snacks are of course going to be nutrient dense and healthy foods which are not processed and these will give your body up a lot of energy so they can perform at optimum levels throughout the day. There are so many different snacks out on the market today that it’s going to be important to find the ones that are the most healthy for you and won’t cause you to gain fat.
When most people are looking the snacks they usually go for a bag of potato chips, Cheetos, cookies, candy bars or crackers. All of these unhealthy snacks are going to be empty calories which will cause your blood sugar levels to spike and cause you to gain weight. The reason these bad snacks cause you to gain weight in the first place is because it will spike your insulin levels which will tell your body to store these carbohydrates as fat. So the secret to snacking for weight loss is to find nutrient dense foods that will not cause your insulin levels to spike. Some of my favorite choices for healthy snacks include plain Greek yogurt, trail mix, protein powder, celery with almond butter, cottage cheese and turkey jerky.
Even though most people think that snacking is actually bad for you because they wrongly assume that you should be starving yourself in order to lose weight. But in fact snacking is a very important part of the fat burning process and it is important if you ever intend to lose weight. It’s a great way to have manageable size portions into your diet which will keep your blood sugar levels stable preventing your body from increasing your level of hunger to the point that you end up binging. Sticking to your diet is hard enough and if you end up not eating all day then eventually you will give in and want to eat everything in sight. If you ask anybody who’s in pretty good shape then you’ll know that they understand that eating healthy snacks for weight loss is going to be the key to staying fit and strong.
