Prawn Stuffed Avocado – An Easy Salad Recipe

Stuffing an avocado is one of the best starter recipe ideas for a dinner party if you want to make something quick. Simply cut an avocado in half and remove the stone.

Scoop out the flesh and chop it, then combine it with a small can of prawns or shrimp. Stir in a little mayonnaise and fill the avocado shells with this mixture.

How easy is that? It is a very easy dish to make but the results are just so good, and the creamy, nutty avocado flavor goes perfectly with the shrimp or crab salad. You can make this from scratch in literally 3 or 4 minutes, and the results will be great.

A Few Variations

Optional ingredients include pineapple chunks, capers, tomato concentrate, Worcestershire sauce, chopped bell peppers, grated cheese or curry powder. A little salt and black pepper is good too.

If you want to make this more filling, add some cooked potatoes or rice to the mixture. You can still serve this as a one of your appetizers or just have the stuffed treats on a buffet table and let people help themselves. You really can’t go wrong with stuffed avocados. Anyone can make this easy recipe and the flavors are just so amazing.

Why is This Dish So Well Loved?

There are lots of different starter recipes to choose from but combining prawns with avocado is such a classic recipe and everybody will love this retro style starter recipe.

The creaminess of the avocado contrasts well with the fishy flavor of the prawns and the mayonnaise adds a nice creamy finish, so what is not to like?

A little salt and pepper and maybe some curry powder, Worcestershire sauce or tomato puree, is all you need to transform this simple dish into a stunning starter recipe. Serve it with something unusual like parsnip crisps or perhaps just some bread and butter.

A Couple Tips

How do you tell if an avocado is ripe? Just press the end. If it is soft and yields easily, it is ripe. If not, choose another one.

You can use fresh prawns in this recipe if you like – just boil them for a couple of minutes until they turn pink. When they’re pink they’re done!

Canned shrimp are usually fine but thawed ones can be mushy and watery. If you are really on a budget, use half shrimp and half crab sticks for this easy starter recipe. If you are using thawed ones just press paper towels on them to drain all the liquid off. Frozen shrimp/prawns hold a lot of water and you want to get rid of all that unnecessary liquid before making your filling.
