There are times when everyone trying to get fit suffers from a lack of motivation. The loss of motivation hits people throughout every stage of getting fit: those first starting a program with a personal trainer at a fitness centre and those who have been working out for many years. A valuable piece of advice from those who have dedicated much of their time to fitness is to address this dilemma immediately, rather than trying to wait it out. Motivation is increasingly difficult to find the longer it stays lost. Luckily, the desire to become fit can be found again through a number of methods.
Going to a fitness centre for the first time can be intimidating. The large number of machines and equipment, and how to use them properly, has led to more than one person walking back outside. When lack of motivation to get fit stems from fear or uncertainty, it is best to arrange a walk through of the facility. Most centres offer an introduction session where a personal trainer will perform introductions to the exercises and equipment, those that will best suit the fitness goals of each individual, as well as instruction on proper use.
A personal trainer, if used, understands that motivation to get fit is not always there. They also know that this sometimes stems from the boredom of performing the same routines every day. Mentioning boredom as a factor to the instructor is the surest way to have new exercises and equipment brought into the mix.
Another way to combat lack of motivation is to take action and go to the fitness centre anyway. Many centres have juice bars that offer a variety of healthy drinks. Ordering refreshment at the centre has a two-fold opportunity to increase motivation: The sights and sounds at the centre can instantly make a person want to exercise; additionally, drinking something nutrient-rich is a small step that makes a person desire another, larger step in the direction of fitness.
Perhaps the best way to increase motivation is to look at the progress that has already been achieved. This can be done by trying on an older pair of pants and seeing how they fit differently, looking at a before picture, jumping onto a scale, or taking measurements. A personal trainer often records measurements, and a glimpse at the changes can be the best motivator to keep going!
