I Would Like to Know What is the Sign of Prostate Cancer

You might ask yourself “what is the sign of prostate cancer”? In the preliminary stages of cancer, there are no visible signs or symptoms.

The clearest sign in a man would be through a PSA or DRE screening. PSA is a protein found in the blood which is at a higher level in cancers of the prostate In other words, the more progressed the cancer is, the higher the level will be. DRE stands for digital rectal exam. This is a routinely performed test for men when visiting their doctors office. During this test the doctor checks for any enlargement of the prostate as well as any other irregularities.

In cases where the prostate cancer is further progressed, the man may experience “bone pain”. Generally this pain will be in the back, hips and or legs.

Some signs of cancer of the prostate also include difficulty in urination, or incontinence. The bladder may feel empty to the man but very soon after he needs to go again. This may keep him from a good nights sleep, as he may arise frequently to urinate.

Occasionally, there may be some blood in the urine, but this is uncommon. The man may also have difficulty obtaining or maintaining an erection.

In the United States scientists and doctors are currently at work developing an early detection test which can be performed using a simple urine test.

If a man has a relative who has prostate cancer, he should also be tested. The likelihood of a man having cancer of the prostate is doubled if he has a relative who has tested positive. If he has three or more relatives who have tested positive for cancer, his chances are ten times higher. So, as you can see, testing and early detection are imperative.

If you still have concerns or question regarding what is the sign of prostate cancer, you should contact your doctor.
