Getting Motivated to Exercise: 3 Ways That Will Get You Out of Your Chair and Into the Gym

So many people face the challenge of simply wanting to exercise or exercising more. They look at it as drudgery. They make it seem painful and yet the ultimate outcome of not exercising will be much worse. We see in today’s world what is happening to so many of our young people and adults. In the United States, the average weight for adult women is 160 pounds and for men it’s 197 pounds. 20 years ago it was 142 pounds for women and around 180 for men.

Our sedentary lifestyle has led to so much of this. When diet is added to the mix, we have the current results. The projection is that it’s going to get worse. Heck, fully 3 out 4 young adults between 17-14 years old in America can’t even qualify for the military because, in part, of their weight. Where does that leave our national security?

It’s high time that we all start exercising consistently and find that motivation to do so. Just because you can do great on some action-oriented video game, doesn’t mean you are action-oriented. Now is the time to get moving towards a reason why you want to exercise. There lies one of the keys. It’s your personal motivation. What is it that you want? It’s there. You simply have to discover it.

So here are three ways that will you discovery your motivation and get you to want to take action on exercising more. BTW, it’s truly “the want it factor” that drive people to do what they do.

1. Write down all the things that you want out of exercising. I mean, what it will you get that you really want. It has to be emotionally based. Otherwise it won’t have meaning. Just because you can think of it, doesn’t mean you’ll get it. It’s only when emotions are tied to what you want will it lead to the desire that will drive you to do it. When you write down everything you can think of that will help create the desire, list it from 1 to 10. 1 would be the most important reason all the way to 10 (or however many you have down).

2. Think of something you really desire and anchor that into exercising. In NLP we use what is called the Godiva Chocolate Pattern. It doesn’t have to be that pattern, just anything that you highly desire. Like the last exercise, this one will help create the motivation necessary to do it. Think about that which you already desire or crave. Increase the feelings, bringing in all sensory input as well as the internal aspect of it. Touch a part of your body and anchor in that feeling. Release it. Next, think about exercising. Bring up the thought of it. Anchor in the feelings in another part of your body. Release it. Think of something else. Then touch the area of your body that had the desire and next, touch the other area that corresponds to exercise. The desire for exercise should increase.

3. Do something physical movement that can be considered exercising that you love to do. Make it fun, like play. That’s even if it’s a childhood game, do it. Tag is always fun. Or anything else. Just do it consistently. The thing about fun physical activities, the motivation is already there.

As with any other activity immediate action should be taken so that it becomes part of you. And that’s something we all should strive to do is that immediate and consistent action with the right knowing creates success. Now, get out and do it.

Living an optimal life requires a life that is healthy and fit. Knowing what you need to do in order for that to happen is important. And taking action towards getting healthy and fit is the most important key. Finding the right knowledge and experts in their fields can go a long way to accomplishing that. That’s as long as you take action on what you learn. People who are successful are always action-oriented. They will simply put into the action the right knowledge for them.
