How to Take Proper Care of Your Eyes

The eye is one of the body organ which is most abused, more so these days with most people facing the computers at almost 80% of their waking hour. Those who are not in front of their computer are watching TV or reading a book, magazine or newspapers.

Indeed, just because you are not moving your arm or body, it does not mean that you are moving a muscle when you are using your eyes. The problem is that, you will only realize the abuse that you have done to your eyes when it is already too late… when you can no longer see clearly without the help of glasses.

That is why you should always take care of your eyes, you need to protect, as it is one of the most useful part of our body.

First, you should always remember to get enough sleep. Sleep is the only way that your eyes can rest. And since your eyes are closed, they are less exposed to germs and infections.

A walk in the garden can also do wonder for your eyes. Take a break away from the glare of you computer monitor or television screen. This can really refresh your eyes in more ways than you can imagine.

You also be conscious whenever you touch your eyes. To be sure, always wash your hands. You will never know when you will have the itch to rub your eyes, and who knows what kind of germs you will be putting on your eyes when you do.

Also, be sure to use a clean handkerchief or a tissue paper when you need to wipe your eyes. Emphasis on cleanliness is important. Avoid sharing your handkerchief or towels with other people.

Be sure to work where there is appropriate lighting. A dim or half-lighted working environment causes your eyes to exert more effort and there causing more muscle stress. Light should focus on work or reading material and not shone directly on your eyes. The same is also true when you are reading.

Diet can also be factor in taking care of your eyes. While there are really no food identified as harmful to the eyes, you can focus your diet on foods that can do wonders for the eyes… especially foods rich in Vitamin A.

You go to the dentist every six months for your teeth; you should go to the Ophthalmologist for a regular check up too. So, why not include a regular visit to an Ophthalmologist for your eye check-up? Regular eye exams can help serious conditions from happening, such as glaucoma and cataracts. We may not be aware of the problem or that our vision is already changing because our brains tend to compensate for changes on a day-to-day basis. Regular eye exam can help prevent major problems from happening.
